The 1980s began with a change of kit supplier for Oxford United.
Adidas were a popular choice amongst many football clubs at the time, with the club having the standard (now iconic) Adidas template.

It appears that the club did not receive yellow change shorts from Adidas, so when playing against teams with dark shorts, Oxford United wore their old Admiral yellow shorts.

An all-red change kit was identical in styling to the home strip, except it did not feature flared collars.
This particular template was used by Nottingham Forest when they won the European championship earlier that year.
With neither yellow nor red suitable for the trip to Blackpool's Bloomfield Road, Oxford United took to the field in an all-white strip featuring Adidas shirts.
The smaller collars and horizontal alignment of the club badge and Adidas motif were a prelude to the 1981 yellow shirts.
