The 1980s began with a change of kit supplier for Oxford United. Adidas, a popular choice among many football clubs at the time, provided the standard (now iconic) Adidas template for the team.
Long
sleeves
This has to be one of the most iconic football shirt templates ever produced. It was so popular that Adidas even trademarked the three stripes.
It seems the club did not receive yellow change shorts from Adidas; therefore, when facing teams with dark shorts, Oxford United wore their old yellow Admiral shorts.
While the iconic three-stripe Adidas socks were featured in the squad photo, the team wore plain yellow socks for all matches.
Long
sleeves
The all-red change kit mirrored the home strip in style, but it did not feature the flared collars.
This particular template was also worn by Nottingham Forest when they won the European Championship earlier that year.
With neither the yellow nor red kits suitable for their trip to Blackpool's Bloomfield Road, Oxford United took to the field in an all-white strip featuring black trim.
The smaller collars and horizontal alignment of the club badge and Adidas motif were a prelude to the 1981 yellow shirts.
